Quarles, a legend in his own right, had spent years as a fierce defender in the NFL, patrolling the field with an uncanny sense of anticipation. Though his coaching experience was rooted in defense, he had long been a student of the entire game. His retirement from playing had been followed by a series of assistant coaching jobs, all on defense.
His leap into the offensive coordinator role, however, was nothing short of revolutionary. That evening, Quarles sat in his office, poring over game footage and playbooks. Now, he found himself on the other side, tasked with outsmarting defenses rather than crushing them. He knew the skepticism surrounding his appointment. His social media feeds were flooded with both criticism and curiosity.
But Quarles, with his steel-hard determination, brushed it aside. They reside in Tampa Bay, Florida. Quarles launched the IMPACT Foundation whose mission is to benefit at-risk children, youth, and their families by providing assistance, programs, and events designed to build self-esteem, provide unique life changing opportunities, and beneficiaries to set and achieve life goals.

In the offseason, along with former Buccaneers Mike Alstott, the late Lee Roy Selmon and Doug Williams, Quarles signed autographs at a local mall to help raise funds and awareness for the earthquake victims in Haiti.
As chairman, Quarles led a seven-county, member board that had a stated goal of building a transportation master plan to tackle the significant transportation issues facing the greater Tampa Bay area. He stepped down from this responsibility in order to dedicate his full time and attention to the Buccaneers. An avid golfer, in the spring of , Quarles was part of the winning foursome in the Transitions Championship Pro-Am at Innisbrook.
